Police is OK, family is OK, but for all of the reasons stated in answers and comments here, avoid any chance that someone from the Internet may identify you personally at all costs. | |

The criminals know what they're doing and can funnel a LOT of money out of a gullible target. Heaven forbid Social Security Numbers were given out along with physical address... These two pieces of information translates into mortgages, of which all of it will disappear and the OP's mom will be on the hook. | |

The mom may not accept it from their 16 yo son, but the OP knows enough of the situation to clearly explain it for another knowledgeable adult to immediately identify it as a scam. A police officer with any experience in scams will immediately understand and can talk sense into the mom. | |
