Oct 6, 2022 at 14:25 | comment | added | Jivan Pal | I contacted HMRC to get clarification on this, and they confirmed that Gift Aid is the only way to reduce one's tax burden for the purpose of making donations. The charity has to support the UK Gift Aid scheme (which they can only do if they are a registered charity in the UK, EU, Norway, Iceland, or Liechtenstein), and you must have opted in to use Gift Aid at the time of making the donation. Quite a shame that there is no mechanism for donating to US 501(c)(3) charities or the like from pre-tax income. | |
