I just edited the question to add some clarification. The intention is to close the business ASAP. By retirement, I mean 63 so they can collect Social Security. If the debt is gone, they can dump the business, and work part time to pay for the mortgage. Whatever is left in mortgage/bills I can cover without a problem, but it doesn't solve the $45k hole.
