The Case-Shiller real-estate indices are useful for measuring average change in home prices in 20 major metropolitan areas in the USA.

Standard & Poor's and Economists Robert Shiller, and Karl Case worked together to create real-estate indices. They are available as a single national index as well as multiple regional geographic indices. They are updated on the last Tuesday of every month, and are posted on the S&P/ Dow Jones website, Housing Views.
