I am an international student who recently moved to the US for studies.

I have been reading up on identity theft and credit freezes/fraud alerts. After getting a primary credit card (to build up some credit history), I do not have many plans for employment off campus (which requires employers to see your credit history).

Also, most people DO get apartments even without the landlord asking for credit history.

I think there would be minimal use of my credit history. Should I place a credit freeze on my account after obtaining my primary credit card? I do not plan to use fraud alerts since they need to be renewed, however, I do plan to place a fraud alert before temporarily lifting my credit freeze in case I do need potential employer/landlord to see my history (which will not happen much).

Employment does not require a credit check. Some employers may choose to do so, but it's not a requirement. – Brythan Sep 17 '17 at 15:03
