Apr 2 at 21:58 comment added TTT @Nathanmajicvr.com I wonder if you intended your comment to be for the OP rather than this answer? ;)
Apr 2 at 20:51 comment added Nathan majicvr.com Do you not have / intend to have children? Or want to do some charitable work that might benefit from having some money to donate / spend on it when you get older? I am constantly baffled by how differently I think to others. I guess I could use that as a source of pride, to chuckle a bit at my friends when they get old, but that seems mean-spirited. I'd much rather people just took care of themselves better sigh
Sep 7, 2018 at 2:31 comment added TomTom Ah, Guilty of 2, 3 and 4 ;) And saving too much, I think.
Sep 5, 2018 at 0:02 comment added user71659 "I wish I had taken more risks" is a very common thing to say in one's midlife crisis, and many risks, such as starting your own business instead of a corporate job, require money and giving up real or perceived financial stability. As a direct counterpoint to #2, note the expensive sports cars that tend to get purchased at this point in life.
Sep 4, 2018 at 19:41 comment added jrh To add to what @EricNolan said, people also generally do not say "I wish I would have spent more time at the office"
Sep 4, 2018 at 1:47 comment added TomTom "When people over 60 reflect back on their life, they generally do not say:" - GENERALLY People also suck at "life", never play the game of life properly and make a ridiculous amount of totally idiotic decisions. "people" includes half with below average ability to cope with life.
Sep 3, 2018 at 11:40 comment added TTT @EricNolan agreed; balance is good. I made sure to omit, "I wish I took less vacations". ;)
Sep 3, 2018 at 9:33 comment added Eric Nolan To add a minor counterpoint. Sometimes people do wish they had gone on that expensive holiday with their friends or been to see the Taj Mahal or whatever. I think it is insane to spend every penny you earn now based on the concept that somehow your lifestyle will change completely when you are 'old' and you won't need money. I also think it's foolish (not insane though) not to treat yourself occassionally if you can afford it. To be clear I don't think your answer is implying that a person should never spend anything on themselves. I just wanted to mention that balance is good.
